HIKE TO A MOUNTAIN HUT - Stunning view of Lake Como - “Rifugio Menaggio”

Absolutely worth the climb: Spectacular views from “the balcony” on Lake Como

Absolutely worth the climb: Spectacular views from “the balcony” on Lake Como

From the well known town of Menaggio (Lake Como West Bank) you have to reach the lesser known town of Plesio (eventually with a Lake Como Transfers driver). The exact location where I suggest to depart from is the hamlet “Monti di Breglia”.

Follow the walking trail, red and white signs on the stones, it takes about 1 hour to reach the “Rifugio Menaggio” where you can have hot traditional meals, drinks and also sleep in bunk beds.

At 1383m altitude the views over the Lake are ample reward for the climb. The hike requires decent physical stamina and is a good work out.

There are plenty of other walking routes winding off from the refuge, the views are superb and the rocky summit of Mt Grona (for more trained hikers) is another 90 mins straight up to about 1750m.

E-BIKE Lake Como & Lake Lugano

E-Bike an alternative way for everybody to discover amazing Lake Como and Lake Lugano

Start your e-bike tour in a charming Renaissance agricultural village above Menaggio, easily reachable with your driver. From here discover the picturesque cycle path along the old railway line between Lake Como and Lake Lugano.

You can experience a guided tour to the best panoramic views above Menaggio that most tourists never see; the back roads and hidden angles of the most popular lakefront villages of Lake Como - or adventure to the little-known Valsolda valley between Lake Como and Lake Lugano, for lunch in a traditional "crotto" (mountain restaurant), a rare glimpse of the "Sistine Chapel of Lombardy" and spectacular views of both lakes.

Lake Como Water Sports

For those who are seeking water sports, Lake Como is a thumbs up!

In particular in Lezzeno Lake Como, a very quiet town away from the crowds of the larger touristy places but only few km away from Bellagio, there are plenty of choices for water activities - canoes, kayaks, water skiing, wakeboarding - excellent for the kids, and for adults too. As national school recognized by the Italian Waterski & Wakeboard federation (FISW), Club Morgan offers wakeboard, wakesurf and waterski courses for all ages and levels, they have qualified instructors.

Crotto del Misto, the family owned restaurant adjoining Club Morgan offers an extensive fish choices from the lake and is a good place to try local delicacies.

Running or Walking on Lake Como

Thanks to the wonderful weather, from March to November, Lake Como is perfect for running and walking outdoor.

Thanks to the wonderful weather, from March to November, Lake Como is perfect for running and walking outdoor.

The most spectacular spots for a waterfront run or walk in Lake Como, with a walking path or runnable road are the road from Cernobbio to Villa Olmo in Como and from Menaggio to Tremezzina (or viceversa).

For hillside running or walking with great views, we recommend the Greenway del Lago di Como, a strolling route of 10km between Cadenabbia and Colonno.

The route is well sign posted and there's also a series of paving slabs with silver markers in them to follow. None of the paths lead you along the busy streets which makes it more special.

The view is amazing and it allows you to appreciate the little villages at a slow pace.

Menaggio is the jumping off point for the bicycle path and the Parco Val Sanagra, a remote valley that connects Lake Como to Lake Lugano. Between Lake Como and Lake Lugano there is the placid Lake Piano with three marked nature trails (about 5 km) that encircles the Lake.

Cycling on Lake Como is a good way to get around, although traffic can be very heavy on popular routes, especially during the weekends.

Feel like a champion on the classic climb from Bellagio to Madonna del Ghisallo. The road up has frequently been included as a classic stage to the “Giro D’Italia “ and is also part of “Giro di Lombardia”. The climb is very famous to professional and amateur cyclist. At the top of the hill you will find the Museo Del Ciclismo, and a beautiful little chrch dedicated to all the cyclists. The museum is devoted to all aspects of the business of cycling and temporary exhibitions.

If you don’t want to bring your bike overseas, there are many places where you can rent professional road or mountain bikes with or without an experienced PRO bike tour guide.
